Synthetic fees

LiveLast verified 4 Nov 2026

Synthetic trades pay two kinds of fee: a trade fee when you open and when you close, and a profit fee on the profit of a winning trade.

The numbers below are the production rates as of 4 Nov 2026.

Fee table

FeeRateCharged onWhen
Open fee, spot1%The amount you payWhen you buy

Close feeSame rate as the open feeThe value of the position at closeWhen you sell or close, and at expiry

Profit fee, leverage8%Profit after the open and close feesOnly if the trade made a profit

Competition tokens have their own rates. In the Demo competition, Synthetic trades pay no fee at all while zero-fee Demo is on. With it off, and in Arena, the trade fee is 1% and the profit fee 5%. See Demo: fees.

There is no funding fee, no holding fee and no fee per minute. A position costs the same whether it stays open for ten seconds or for the token's whole life.

Formulas

Let AA be the amount you pay, ff the trade fee rate, pp the profit fee rate, LL the leverage, VV the value of the position when it closes (margin plus profit or loss, never below 0).

Open:

Fopen=A⋅fM=A (1−f)N=M⋅LF_{open} = A \cdot f \qquad M = A\,(1 - f) \qquad N = M \cdot L

Close:

Fclose=V⋅fΠ=V−A−FcloseFprofit=max⁡(0, Π)⋅pF_{close} = V \cdot f \qquad \Pi = V - A - F_{close} \qquad F_{profit} = \max(0,\ \Pi) \cdot p

What you receive:

R=V−Fclose−FprofitR = V - F_{close} - F_{profit}

The profit fee is charged on profit measured against the full amount you paid, so both trade fees are already taken off before the profit fee is applied. A trade that ends below the amount you paid pays no profit fee.

Worked examples

Rates used: f=1%f = 1\%, p=8%p = 8\%.

Spot buy and sell. A $100 spot buy sold 30% higher returns $125.22, a net +$25.22 after both trade fees and the profit fee. The step-by-step numbers, and a losing sell, are on Trading: spot.

Leveraged long, closed in profit. You pay $100 for a 10x long at $1.00 and close at $1.10.

  • Open fee $1.00, margin $99.00, notional $990.00.
  • Profit from the move: $990×0.10=$99.00\$990 \times 0.10 = \$99.00, so V=198.00V = 198.00.
  • Close fee $1.98. Profit $198−$100−$1.98=$96.02\$198 - \$100 - \$1.98 = \$96.02. Profit fee $7.68.
  • You receive $188.34. Net result: +$88.34.

Leveraged long, closed at a loss. Same position, closed at $0.95.

  • Loss from the move: $990×0.05=$49.50\$990 \times 0.05 = \$49.50, so V=49.50V = 49.50.
  • Close fee $0.495. Profit is negative, so no profit fee.
  • You receive $49.005. Net result: −$51.00 (rounded).

The leverage page has a short and a liquidation example.

Where the trade fee goes

On a public token, part of every trade fee goes to the token's creator. The creator share is taken out of the fee you already pay; it does not add to it. See Creator earnings.

Edge cases

  • Tiny trades. The minimum trade is $0.10. Every trade fee is at least $0.000001, the smallest unit the balance tracks.
  • Close value of 0. If losses use up the whole margin, nothing is charged at close.
  • Liquidation. No close fee and no profit fee. You lose the amount you paid.
  • Expiry. At the end of the token's life, open positions are closed at the last price with the normal close fee and profit fee.
  • Referral discount. If you joined with a referral code, part of the trade fee can come back to you as a discount. See Referral Program.

FAQ

Is the fee charged on the notional? No. Both trade fees are charged on money: the open fee on the amount you pay, the close fee on the value you close with. Leverage does not multiply the fee.

Do I pay a profit fee on a loss? No.

Why did I get less than margin plus profit? The close fee and the profit fee come off the close value. Use the calculator to see each part.
